We are inviting you to our annual international conference on the universal welfare state on 12-13 October 2019 in Chiangmai, Thailand.
Abstract submission deadline: 30th September 2019
Theme: The rise of New Left and the return of the universal welfare state
Amid the gaining paces of neoliberalism and national populism around the world, this conference aims to seek for ways to tackle socio-economic inequalities by employing the universal welfare state. The idea of the New Left is conceived in order to challenge the market-based rationality that governs not only economics but also our everyday lives. Universal Basic Income (UBI) is arguably one of the main approaches that would reduce the widening inequalities in income and rights to access public services, which could enhance people's quality of living as a whole.
Thus, the main question is not only placed on how we can see the universal welfare state and UBI as the main tool to deal with the socio-economic struggles for the many, but also how can we encourage and provoke the public to see these approaches as a mandatory way rather than an alternative one?
Following to above questions, we invite you to share your ideas from unlimited methods and disciplines. Either based on methods, theories, or practices, you are all welcome to create an interdisciplinary environment in which we believe it is the best way to deal with our complex societies.
All successful and registered abstracts will be published in the conference proceeding. All presenters will also receive a certificate of participation.
